Creative Proposal Writing

Fingal County Council Arts Office in partnership with Visual Artists Ireland are delighted to present

Creative Proposal Writing with Annette Maloney

Preparing proposals can be a challenging and time consuming exercise for artists. It is not always easy to communicate an unrealised idea and it can take time and effort to transform some blank A4 paper into a clear and creative proposal that will, hopefully capture the imagination of a selection process or panel. The day will include a presentation and conversation on best practice and some group discussions on examples of recent artist’s proposals. Places prioritised for artists based in or originally from Fingal County.

Thurs 9 March (09.40 – 17.00) at Malahide Castle Visitors Centre

For the second part of the day artists can pre-book a one-to-one 30min mentoring sessions (14.30 - 17.00) which will give artists time to discuss and review one of their recent proposals or a forthcoming application. These sessions will take about 30mins and artists should submit material for feedback in advance of the event see details below.

N.B. There are just 8 - 10 one-to-one mentoring clinics available so please do indicate in the registration form  that you wish to avail of one.  Clinic slots will be allocated on a first come first served basis. Annette Moloney and Monica Flynn will facilitate the one-to-one clinics.

Artists interested in booking for the one-to-one mentoring clinics should submit an email copy of a recent or current draft proposal, along with the related submission guidelines for the opportunity they are applying for.  Send to: monica@visualartists.ie - Deadline: 12:00 noon Thur 2 March.  This material will be reviewed before the event in order to give detailed feedback.

Questions you may have:

Can I go to the morning presentation and discussion and not an afternoon clinic?
Yes. The morning session is open to about 25 artists. The afternoon clinics must be booked in advance and are open to about 8 artists.

Can I book one of the afternoon one-to-one mentoring sessions if I don’t attend the morning workshop?
The mentoring sessions will build on the information discussed in the morning workshop, so it would be more beneficial for artists to attend the morning session as well. Also, each of the one-to-one session will last for 30 min, which will focus on the proposal being developed by the artist and there will not be enough time to repeat the information from the morning workshop.
