Positioning Your Practice


Fingal County Council Arts Office in partnership with Visual Artists Ireland are delighted to present 


‘Positioning Your Practice’ on Thursday 23 June10.30-4pm at Malahide Castle Visitors Centre, Malahide, Co. Dublin.

Speakers: Bea de Sousa  / The Agency Gallery, Nick Kaplony / ArtQuest and Mary Cremin / Independent Curator
The contributing speakers will provide different perspectives on how to position ones work as an artist speaking from their own professional experience and from the vantage point of working internationally as arts professionals.

Morning Talks

Mary Cremin will discuss her curatorial work: at Tulca 2015 and at IMMA, where she has worked with many international artists; her experience of the development of shows, production, lead in times. She will offer observations on the level of preparedness and professionalism required by artists working at this level also discuss how curatorial concerns are balanced with logistical and funding constraints.

Nick Kaplony will talk about how to prepare for international opportunities and make the most of opportunities such as residencies; exchanges; visits to biennales and art fairs.

Bea de Sousa will talk about her curatorial interests at The Agency Gallery - the commercial gallery system, positioning your work, the relationship between
commercial gallerist and artist and considerations around how work might fit or be presented within the commercial gallery system.

Afternoon Clinics
Optional 1-to-1 Clinics are available with each of the speakers.
Please check clinic option in the registration form to book a clinic slot.
Clinics will run for approx. 20mins per person and will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
