‘A New Beat’
A New Beat will provide a learning experience in bodhrán, contemporary dance and movement for young people aged 12 – 18 yrs. Through a series of workshops delivered by professional musician Robbie Walsh and choreographer Roisin Whelan, participants will enjoy the playful experience of combining both artforms, which will culminate in a showcase performance on stage in The Séamus Ennis Arts Centre’s Piper’s Garden on the occasion of Cruinniu na nOg, Saturday 10th of June.
We are searching for young people aged 12-18 to participate in this exciting Dance and Music Project.

About the Tutors
Bodhrán: Walsh is a bodhrán player who hails from Dublin. Brought up with a strong musical background, his style is the definition of diversity and power. Throughout the years he has toured United States, Australia, New Zealand, Russia, U.A.E, South Africa and all across Europe. Having gathered this broad experience throughout his musical career, Robbie set up The Bodhrán Buzz to further extend the knowledge of the bodhrán throughout the world; coaching many students to champion level. In 2016 he conducted a Guinness World Record attempt for the largest bodhrán ensemble which included 1,052 Bodhrán players.
Dance: Róisín Whelan is a dancer and choreographer based in Carlow. She holds a Bachelor of Performing Arts and Master of Performance (Distinction) from the Northern School of Contemporary Dance. Róisín continues to perform in Ireland and abroad as a dancer on stage and on screen and teaches professionally for several dance organisations. As a choreographer, Roisin is creating highly physical and technically demanding work with strong narratives that is accessible to all regardless of their age, gender, or socio-economic background.
